Compliance & Crewing

Total Operational Assurance: Certificates, Compliance & Crew

Flag registration is the beginning of a vessel's legal life, not the end of it. To trade without costly detentions by Port State Control, a vessel must hold and maintain a full suite of statutory and class certificates, and its crew must be properly documented. Gerli & Co. provides the secondary maritime services that keep vessels moving and compliant — the unglamorous, mission-critical work that separates a professional flag agent from a paper-pushing registrar.

Certification

Statutory & Flag Certificates

We liaise directly with Recognised Organisations (ROs) and classification societies — with whom the firm holds strong, long-standing partnerships — to oversee and secure the documentation a vessel needs to trade lawfully, including:

Tonnage. International Tonnage Certificate (ITC) and tonnage measurement.
Safety. SOLAS safety certificates (construction, equipment, radio).
Environment. MARPOL pollution-prevention certificates (IOPP and related).
Management & security. ISM Code (safety management) and ISPS Code (ship security) documentation.
Operational. Load line (ILLC), minimum safe manning, and continuous synopsis records.
Inspections & exemptions. ASI (Annual Safety Inspection) coordination, exemption and dispensation letters.
Rapid Response

Technical Support

When authorities raise an unexpected deficiency, when a conversion or modification needs a regulatory pathway, or when a certificate must be obtained against the clock, our firm provides swift legal-technical intervention. We translate technical problems into administrative solutions and keep maritime assets in service — in most time zones and ports worldwide, through our own people and our network of associates.

Crewing & Technical Crew Requirements

The crew is the lifeblood of any vessel, and international maritime labour law is exacting. Gerli & Co. manages the complete administrative burden of crewing in full compliance with the Maritime Labour Convention (MLC 2006):

Endorsements. Panama (and other flag) endorsements of competency for officers and ratings — the recognition endorsements (CRAs) that allow foreign-certificated seafarers to serve aboard.
Seaman's books. Seafarer identity and record books (Seaman's Books).
Competency. Certificates of competence and proficiency processing.
Contracts. Guidance on seafarer employment agreements and MLC-compliant contracts.

By ensuring every crew member is correctly licensed and documented under the relevant flag administration, we reduce liability and protect operations from detentions and labour disputes.
